Traffic Citation For Tiger Woods

By Newsroom America Staff at 1 Dec 2009

The Florida Highway Patrol has issued golfing legend Tiger Woods with a uniform traffic citation for $164 for careless driving following an accident outside his home last week.

However the media frenzy over the incident is not likely to go away with the highway patrol preparing to release the crash investigation report and a package of all photographs taken at the scene.

Woods earlier admitted he was responsible for the single car crash in which he allegedly suffered cuts and bruising, saying "This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect."

The Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement it had concluded its investigation of the vehicle crash involving Tiger Woods. "The investigation has determined that Mr. Woods is at fault in the crash. This afternoon, FHP issued a uniform traffic citation for careless driving to Mr. Woods," the statement said. Careless driving in Florida is a moving violation and upon conviction may result in a fine of $164 and four points on a driver's record.

"This was a single vehicle crash, with a single occupant. Unfortunately, it is one of thousands that occur in our state each year. Mr. Woods has satisfied the requirements of Florida law by providing his driver license, registration and proof of insurance to us. With the issuance of the citation, the Florida Highway Patrol has completed its investigation into this matter," it said. The FHP said it was not pursing criminal charges with no testimony or other evidence to support additional charges of any kind.

Consultation with the Office of State Attorney Lawson Lamar had determined that there was insufficient evidence available to issue a subpoena for additional medical information. "We cannot speak to the existence of any blood evidence, nor are there claims of domestic violence by any individual."

The Florida Highway Patrol said it would make no further comment on the issue, but would release the crash files and photos because they were a "matter of public record."

Tiger Woods has cancelled the rest of his 2009 golfing schedule and pulled out of his 2009 Chevron World Challenge.

Woods said he would not participate in any other tournaments in 2009 and would return to action "next year," but did not specify a date.
