The New York Times lead headline online early Thursday morning says " Court Sides With C.I.A. on Seizure of Terror Suspects." The paper says a sharply divided federal appeals court dismissed a lawsuit involving the C.I.A.’s “extraordinary rendition” program.

It says a long-delayed push by NATO forces has finally begun, but there has been no significant let-up in the Taliban’s campaign of terrorism and assassination.

The paper says big subsidies for clean energy companies, like cheap land and low-interest loans, may violate W.T.O. rules.

The Times says the authorities in the United States and Mexico say Edgar Valdez Villarreal emerged as a leader of the Beltrán-Leyva drug gang.

And the most read story says President Obama on Wednesday will make clear that he opposes any compromise that would extend the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy beyond this year, officials said, adding a populist twist to an election-season economic package that is otherwise designed to entice support from big businesses and their Republican allies.
