(Newsroom America) -- The NFL and partner Verizon Wireless announced Wednesday they will team up to stream some postseason games as well as the Super Bowl online and through the league's mobile apps.
Upcoming wild card games, as well as the Pro Bowl and TV's most-watched event, the Super Bowl, will be streamed live on NFL.com and on NBCSports.com, CNN reported.
NBC Sports officials said their network would run different commercials online than what are being broadcast on TV, but Super Bowl viewers would be able to pull up commercials on demand via the Web site shortly after they air.
Through the exclusive deal, Verizon will be the only cellular carrier that will offer the games, which can be viewed on phones and tablets.
The NFL does not stream most of its games for free during the regular season. NBC Sports has streamed its exclusive Sunday Night Football games via its Web site for three years. The network announced this week it had extended its contract with the NFL through 2022, CNN reported.
The playoffs begin on January 7. The Super Bowl will be played on February 5 in Indianapolis.
